The placement of false ceilings in homes is conditioned in most cases by the installation of the necessary installations for the proper functioning of our house (plumbing installations, electricity, extraction). In addition, this solution allows us to place recessed lighting at home.
The most common option in homes is the placement of a false ceiling made of plasterboard secured by esparto grass to the upper floor. This choice forces us to lower the height by about 10 cm with respect to the slab.
On the other hand, if we do not want to lose too much height we can install a false plasterboard ceiling. Here some plasterboard plates supported by a metal structure are arranged. This solution allows us to gain 3-4 cm compared to the plaster solution.
The plasterboard false ceiling is a more continuous solution, with fewer joints and joints and better supports expansion, so the appearance of cracks is less likely, although its price is around 30% more expensive than plaster.
For the construction of large ceilings, the placement of a plasterboard false ceiling is undoubtedly recommended.
In jobs where the execution time is a priority, it is better to opt for plasterboard, which is faster to execute and has a shorter drying time, so it can be painted sooner.
If special solutions are needed, in which, in addition to a false ceiling, other types of characteristics are required such as (thermal insulation, acoustic insulation, a ceiling with water-repellent properties, etc., plasterboard always works better).
