How to do work at home and not die trying?

Given the current economic situation, many people choose to renovate their home instead of buying. If this is your case, surely someone will have advised you not to do it, since starting work at home for many is synonymous with problems (that if the works are going to last forever, that if they never finish, that it will cost you much more than what they initially tell you and that you are going to end up almost crazy) and so on with a series of very widespread thoughts that almost all of us have in our heads when we consider “bringing bricklayers into the house”.

I recommend certain guidelines to avoid and/or minimize as much as possible ending up upset with the “happy works.”

First of all… choose good professionals. Even if you don't know anyone a priori, ask someone who has done work previously and trust their good experience with a company... that is the best advertising for anyone... a satisfied client.

If you don't have anyone, make appointments with several companies and let yourself be guided by your intuition based on their experience in similar works carried out, think about who gives you the most security and confidence, who gives you the most ideas, solutions, in short... in whose hands you would leave your house.

The budget!!!… nowadays it is the most important thing.

The first thing you look at is the money. I would advise you to compare several offers, it is always good to compare; but compare under equal conditions, I mean that they include the same works with similar qualities; Otherwise, I do not recommend that you opt exclusively for the cheapest option, remember that as grandmothers used to say, no one gives away dollars for four pesetas and something that is very cheap can end up being expensive.

The happy unforeseen events.

Small eventualities almost always arise, but the better planned and organized the work is from the beginning, the less impact they will have on the final result.

A good design, planning and organization prior to the beginning of the works is very important, since it will positively influence the final quality, do not doubt that.

The duration of the works, another big question.

Try to establish the duration period with the contractor, with the majority of 'serious companies' this will be reflected in a contract, as well as the possible penalties in case of non-compliance, so unless jobs are contracted for greater or important unforeseen events arise, the deadline should be met.

Finally, I recommend a couple more tips: you have to take into account the regulations, you must always do things legally.

Request the corresponding license at your local Town Hall (there are companies that include it in their services), request a construction container so that the debris generated receives the corresponding waste management and notify your Community of Owners of the start of the works; If you decide to replace or change something that affects the Community, you must ask for the corresponding permission and follow the guidelines reflected in the Statutes. If it is not necessary, at least you inform them of the possible noises and other inconveniences that they may experience in the following weeks.

From here, good luck and let's get to work!!!
